What to do in Raleigh....

As Canes GM, Jeff McRae sweats his way through record breaking 45 degrees Celsius weather trying to stay cool in Osoyoos, BC, questions aplenty surround the Canes roster and future. The team had a pretty good season but was knocked out of the playoffs with 3 seconds left in game 7 of the first round. The team has been competitive but not really much of a cup contender over the last few years. Where does the team go from here?  With all stars like Steven Stamkos and John Tavares on the top line and high end forwards like Logan Couture and Jakub Vrana in support, the team could very likely cobble together another competitive team and give it a go. The issues though are an average group of defenders, mediocre goaltending and an overall lack of depth. The team does posses a solid farm system, but help isn't coming for a couple years at best and this core will be past it's prime if it isn't already. The roster has become a little stale after years of virtually the same core. GM McRae has some big decisions to make this offseason in trying to reshape the Canes to either stay competitive or blow it all up and start from scratch. Arguments can be made for both options at this point  The Canes hold their top draft picks this season and could easily acquire more if needed. Or the picks could be flipped for immediate help. Stay tuned to this as there is bound to be some excitement coming out of the Raleigh front office....
