The Pittsburgh Penguins dropped their fifth straight game tonight to their Eastern Conference rival, the Buffalo Sabres.  It was one hell of a slobber knocker that saw both team captains scoring hattricks in what was a 7-5 final. All four tenders were in action tonight to both coaches disliking.

The one positive that came out of this game was the fact the Sidney Crosby had his best game of his season (3 goals, +3). Team officials are hoping that the star can build from this game and continue such stellar play. To most people’s surprise, Crosby has been double shifting on the teams 3rd and 4th units with subpar linemates.

“It was really nice to get the monkey off my back. With that said, this was our fifth straight loss. It has been a tough go for us so far this year and we need to be better. I need to be better.” Captain Crosby said.

The Penguins now sit in 3rd last place in the entire league, with more games played then the teams that sit below them (Edmonton Oilers and New York Islanders).  With more then a quarter of the season played, the team needs to drastically turn their play around if they hope to sneak into the playoff picture.

Eric Staal also added a hattrick and a helper tonight in what was his best game of the season.

“Staal had a great game tonight and will likely be rubbing this one in mine and Jordan’s face this summer during our annual fishing trip in Thunder Bay. I kind of felt sorry for him though. When most players score a hattrick in their building they get peppered with 2-300 hats. Staalsy only received four hats. I guess that would explain why they can’t sell tickets here.” said a puzzled Crosby.

The team plays the Ottawa Senators tomorrow at the Energy Consol Arena in Pittsburgh. The Pens are 1-8-0-2 at home this season.
