Hawks Post-Draft

A week after the draft was completed we look back on the Hawks draft day. In the first round they help picks 10, 21 and 22. With the 10 OV selection the Hawks felt they robbed Dougie Hamilton. The Hawks brass feels he’s going to be one of their best defensemen for many years to come. With the other two picks in the 2011 draft, the Hawks continued to demonstrate their love for Russian players by selecting Vladislav Namestnikov and Alexander Khokhlachev with the 21st and 22nd picks. With their dedication to the OHL, the Hawks feel that these highly skilled players will be fundamental to their rebuild.

Other notable selections were Olivier Archambault in the 3rd round which was a former 1st overall selection in the Quebec Major Junior League. He hasn’t gotten along well with his coaches in Val D’Or Foreurs but his skill level is unquestionable. He definitely needs to add size, strength and overall consistency to take his game to the next level.

Matej Stransky was taken with the 4th round pick. Hawks expects to see a bigger role for him next season with the Blades and hope he continues to build from his playoff performance where he registered 9 points in 10 games.

Other notable draftees are Dylan Demelo, Garrett Haar, Victlr Berglind and Matt Killian who were picked up in rounds 6 through 8.
