Another Franchise Player in Vancouver?

In a shocker of a deal, top line center and assistant captain Henrik Sedin, Valterri Filpulla, Matt Martin and John Negrin have been dealt to division rival Edmonton Oilers. In return, the Canucks receive Ryan Getzlaf who General Manager Kyle Allen says is now a franchise cornerstone.

“The fact that Ryan has been dealt 8 times and has played for Atlanta, Anaheim, Toronto, NYI, Boston, Washington, Edmonton and now finally to Vancouver is pretty staggering. Here is a guy who has the makeup of being a franchise center man for any team in the league and he has averaged 0.88 pts a game over his career which includes a rookie season of 37 points in 80 games” stated General Manager Kyle Allen.

By the sounds of General Manager Allen at the press conference, where he could not stop smiling might I add, he considers a few players on his team as franchise players. Meaning these guys are hard to come by and likely to ever be dealt unless blown away by an offer. General Manager Allen lists: LW Taylor Hall, C Matt Duchene, D Shea Weber, C Ryan Getzlaf and G Pekka Rinne as his franchise players. Most teams consider one or two guys franchise players but not in Vancouver.

“How can you not consider those guys franchise players? I have paid a very hefty price in order to acquire these guys (see at the bottom of the article). Taylor Hall, along with Jeff Skinner, will be the best two rookies in the league next year bar none. Matt Duchene is a stud who isn’t at his potential yet and we would have picked first overall if we had the first overall pick that year. Shea Weber cost me an all-star defenseman, a top defensive prospect, a good forward and goalie prospect. Getzlaf...well this press conference is about him and Pekka is one of the best goalies in the league” said Allen in a proud papa way.

You could also consider LW Daniel Sedin, D Ryan Suter, D Zach Bogosain and G Jack Campbell as other players it would be very difficult to move from Vancouver.

Below are the assets who have been dealt to acquire Hall, Weber, Getzlaf, Rinne:

-Luke Schenn, Tyler Beskowrany, Dan Boyle, Patrice Cormier for Weber, 3rd
-Brett McLean, Victor Hedman, Jeremy Morin, Peter Holland, Scott Clemmensen for the 1st overall pick to choose Hall.
-Henrik Sedin, Valterri Filpulla, Matt Martin, John Negrin for Ryan Getzlaf
-Alexei Ponikarovsky, Saku Koivu, NJD 5th, WSH 1st for Rinne and Huselius
