RED SUCKER LAKE, MANITOBA --
In a game that many had circled on their calendars at start the year, the Florida Panthers will visit the Winnipeg Jets at the MTS Centre this evening. The game has a special meaning for players on both squads.
It will mark the first time that Thomas Vanek, Roberto Luongo & Marcel Goc will face their former respective teams. Vanek was sent to Florida in the off season along with Chris Higgins, in exchange for Goc and Luongo.
Since his trade to South Florida, Vanek has showed his worth, producing a respectable 6 points in five games played. He is currently playing alongside league leading point getting Claude Giroux, and has helped Giroux and the Panthers get off to a quick offensive start. (4th in the league in goals for).
Luongo has also excelled since the trade that saw him come to Winterpeg. He currently has a 2-1-1 record with a sparking .928 save percentage, allowing only 9 goals on 125 shots.
This also marks the first meeting between the clubs since the new GM's have taken over. It is rumoured that the losing GM tonight will have to wear the opposing team's jersey at the next meeting between the clubs. The supposed bet has raised many eyebrows, as both GM's have spent 6 months at a gambling rehab center in Florida. Neither Panthers GM MacGillivray nor Jets GM Dumont could be reached for comments.
Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM EST time.
The post game press conference by both general managers will be held at McPhillips Station Casino, 484 McPhillips Street, West Winnipeg.
