Rangers ink Elias

With Patrick Elias, the New York Rangers have signed the last of their free agents this summer. Elias inked a new 3 year deal for 10,5 Mill (3,5 Mill average). "Thats probably my last deal as a professional NEFHL player. I had not much success after being shipped to the Rangers from the Ducks at the deadline, but i like it here. Ill give everything to bring the Rangers back into the playoffs again with hopefully some more success in the postseason", Elias stated right after signing the new contract.

He was traded to the Rangers along with Curtis Glencross for two 2nd round picks, Mattias Tedenby and Scott Hartnell (UFA) at the deadline, but he scored only 4 points (1 goal, 3 assists) during the last 14 regular season games. He had more succes in the playoffs, when he became the Rangers leading scorer with 6 points in 5 games. "Unfortunately we had to play against the later cup champion in round 1. We had no chance but Pat (Elias) was one of our bright spots in these 5 games. We hope he can continue this pace with improved ratings in the upcoming season", explained GM Matt Kaminski.

It is expected that Elias will be switched to LW after the Rangers moved top LW Evander Kane two weeks ago.
