Big surprise and end of an era in New York: The New York Rangers have traded Josh Gorges. Gorges had a great and long career in New York. After 7 years and 563 games he now leaves the big Apple. "We thank him for everything but it was inevitable to trade him at this point of his career. We have 8 pro d-men under contract and he is the only one becoming UFA after this year", explained GM Matt Kaminski.
Gorges was disappointed when he heard the news but looked forward to his new home in Ottawa: "They have an exciting team, but sure after 7 years youll lose a lot of friends", he said. The trade to Ottawa brings 2 draft picks (3rd in 2015 and 4th in 2016) and 2 Mill cash to the Rangers.
In June 2007 the Rangers acquired Gorges for Mario Bliznak from the Carolina Hurricanes. "A great trade in review", Kaminski said. "We will miss his personality off the ice and his defensive awareness on the ice", added the Rangers GM.
In 563 games for the Rangers he scored 38 goals and added 138 assists. He was also dressed in 33 playoff games. He is in the final year of his 3 years contract paying him 1,8 per season.
