The Devils were well represented this weekend during All-Star festivities as the team sent four players. Wisniewski was a starter on D for the main All-Star team while Bobby Ryan managed to get in after a couple players were injured leading up to the games. On the Young Stars side, Nick Bjugstad got in as a center while Boone Jenner secured a spot on the left wing.
In the Young Stars game, Jenner managed a goal late in the 3rd period but that couldn't change the outcome of a game that was basically already decided in the Wests favor. It was a very physical game as multiple players on each team had 3 or more hits in the game while defenseman Radko Gudas managed to throw out 7 hits in what is usually an offense only game. Besides the goal, Jenner was one of the players to throw 3 hits in his 12 minutes on the ice and also had another 2 shots on net that did not go in. Bjugstad didn't register at all on the boxscore as he went without a hit, shot or anything else of note in his 12 minutes on the ice. Based on their regular season stats those figures are an accurate reflection on what was expected from them going into the game as Jenner is tied for 3rd on the Devils in goals with 13 while Bjugstad has a total of 13 points on the season.
Meanwhile, the bigger billed All-Star game oddly ended in a tie after former Devil Mark Giordano managed to tie the game at seven a piece with 2 seconds remaining in the 3rd period. With no scoring in overtime that is how the game ended. Despite the strangeness of a tie in the game, it will be remembered fondly by defenseman James Wisniewski as he scored 3 minutes into the game to give the East a 2-0 lead. Later on in the first he added an assist on a Patrik Elas goal before also getting assists on Kyle Okposo and Sidney Crosby goals in the 2nd period. In total, Wiz managed a very impressive night with the four points, a +2 rating and 1 hit in his 22 minutes on the ice. For his efforts he was given the first star of the game, what I believe is the first time that has been given to a Devils player. On the other side of that was injury fill in Bobby Ryan who managed to go -2 without a shot on net in his 16 minutes of ice time as he struggled to get anything going. He has had some injuries lately as well and maybe wasn't back quite to 100% as he would have liked to be.
