In a valiant effort to stave off post-season elimination the gritty New York Islanders have been making a late-season run.  Presently, the team is on a 3 game winning streak, their longest of the season.
The desperation play has delivered victories over the Blues, Devils, Maple Leafs and Wild in their last five games, with the only loss an OT defeat at the hands of the Washington Capitals.  Unusual things have happened in these games, including a first (and likely last)  career NEFHL hat trick for Andrei Loktionov.   Andrei spoke to reporters after his feat but unfortunately, there were no translators present and his remarks remain a mystery at this time.
Team scoring leader Alex Pietrangelo said “It would be nice to play a few extra games for the fans here in Uniondale.  We know the odds are long, but we haven’t given up hope.  We’re playing for respect, not for a draft pick.”
In a post game interview after the win over Toronto, GM Steve said “I know there are those who feel we should be tanking alongside Trev but we have our self-respect to consider.  We will kick their asses when we meet in Florida on March 30!”
In related news, Trev’s Panthers squad held a team meeting after their franchise-record 45th defeat and voted to donate $500,000 each to a fund aimed at luring Hall of Fame GM Carter Toni back to Miami.
