"First of all we want to win as many playoff rounds as possible", explained Rangers-GM Kaminski today. That was the reason for acquiring Jason Zucker from Toronto to improve the scoring: "We havent scored much this season so far. No surprise at all as we gave up top goalscorer Okposo in the offseason", Kaminski added.
With only 108 goals for in 44 games the Rangers have been 3rd last in the NEFHL before trading for Zucker. Only Philly and Chicago scored less. But the last 2 games the Rangers have been able to score 11 goals. Zucker had an assist in his first game for the Blueshirts and added 2 goals yesterday when the Rangers smashed the Bruins to an easy 6-0 win. But helpful was the absence of Bruins goaltender Corey Crawford because of a shortterm injury.
"We definitely paid a major price for Zucks but we felt comfortable to trade for him because of his huge scoring ability compared with his decent contract. We think he can help us much and he showed that already in the first 2 games."
Another main goal this year is helping Carey Price to make history and to reach huge milestones. "Thats true, Carey is on pace to improve 2 major NEFHL records. His actual savepercentage of .933 is fantastic. The record of JS Giguere from 2013/14 is .924. We hope Carey can keep his track and will get the new record. Also his gaa of 1.70 will be a new record if he can keep it. The NEFHL record so far is 1.78."
To help Carey Price to keep the pucks out of his net the Rangers also acquired Dan Girardi, an elite defensive defenceman. "As soon as we knew Girardi is on the market, we started a pitch to get him. Not only as he is an NHL-Ranger and looks good in an NEFHL-Rangers uniform, He also has huge ratings and will help us to bring one of the better top-4 on the ice"
With John Carlson, Trevor Daley, Jared Spurgeon and Dan Giardi the Rangers have everything what is needed to be successful in the postseason. "Playoffs not only need quality, also some luck is needed. We think with Zucker and Girardi we adressed a need and made a major step into the right direction."
Whats up with Wanda, was finally the last question Kaminski wanted to answer today: "She is doing well and the players love her. It was the right decision to hire such a professional who... ah nurse."
