Its not secret: Carey Price is the best player the New York Rangers have. But its also well known that he owns a 49 DU rating this year and every game without an injury is a bonus. "Thats we we tried hard to land a capable back up. With Chad Johnson they have been succesfull. But - toi, toi, toi - during the first 11 games Carey was strong like a bull: He owns the leagues best svp among regular starters with .932 and the 2nd best gaa among starters with an 1.69 average per game.
"He carries our team as noone else. If he is playing his game, we are able to win every game. If he is average, we lose", Gm Kaminski explained. But Price gets a lot of help from an outstanding defence. With Carlson, Goligoski, Fayne, Daley and Spurgeon the Rangers have strong d-men.
"Its also no secret that we have troubles to score", added Kaminski. While haveing the best gaa average in the league (just 1.73 goals against per game), the Rangers only score a less than mediocre 2.09 goals per game. "We have been working on this since 2 years, but without having more cap space, we cant add a proven scorer." Its rumored that the Rangers even would dangle their 1st round pick to add some scoring.
As long as they cant improve scoring, they need to count on Carey Price and his stellar performance. As soon as Price goes down, the Hoover prediction will be right and the Rangers fall apart rapidly. But Kaminski admitted that the Rangers arent in rebuilding mode: "We still hope to land a playoff spot. So we still looking to improve our team for now, but sure, as soon as we fall out of the picture, we have to rethink our direction."
