Building towards the Future

As much as I enjoy winning games in the present we need keep the future in mind and try not to sacrifice much in the long term for short term gain. My thoughts and projection where we should be after next season. (Hopefully coming off our 4th straight playoff appearance)

July 2019 (21 months from now)

  • Hayes continues to blossom into a 20G 60Pts giant two-way center
  • Sikura steps out of college as a 15G 40Pts talent with 60Pts upside... should also be around 80SP and SK
  • I see Pacioretty being around 30-35G until his mid to late 30s, and with his other ratings, will continue to be a Franchise Winger
  • Ritchie, Haula, Berglund, and Smith should all be 15+G 35+Pts contributors while providing with other ratings
  • I think Matthias is going to be a wicked shutdown vet with his size and skating... the DF could jump from 78 to 80+ as he's on the Jets 1PK and used in defensive situations... the LD could be as high as 70 then
  • The defense should be one of the best in the league and just entered prime years (28-34)
  • Price still with 5-8 years of elite goaltending left

  • Another 25-30G threat in the top nine
  • Two younger Pontential top four defensemen
  • Quality backup

Franchise should have 8-12 open roster spots, allowing us to once again trade draft picks for prospects/players... can also go out and look for UFA prospects again

For example when the time is right I'm pretty sure I'll be able to flip the 2020 2nd and the 2021 2nd for the two defensemen I'll covet then.

Money is there to bring in another offensive top nine forward... I'll be in position to add 25-30 forwards 23 or under into the organization from 2020 to 2023

As my blueline enters there prime, with planned additional support... Price is a franchise goalie with 70+EX/LD that continues rising... and the forwards become good solid vets (Hayes, Ritchie, Haula, Pacioretty, Smith, Berglund, Sikura)

The potential of having a few top nine forwards pushing for roster spots will put this team in great position. (Hit on 5/30 forwards we bring in and that's solid... anymore would be gravy)

And we will have successfully rebuilt the organization for sustained success while winning games in the present.
