Columbus have sent off 3 prospects to the 2019 WJHC and will be watching them closely to keep an eye on the future and how the young guns perform on the World stage.

Toni Utunen, Tyler Madden, Mattius Sammuelsson are all representing the Jackets in British Columbia this year.

As for Madden and Samuelsson Columbus continues to send strong American representation to the Holiday Classic. In the past we have sent the likes of Keiffer Bellows and Colin White to help team USA from 2016-2018 and they did very well both keeping a point per game pace over their 2 years respectively and both winning the gold medal in 2017 in Montreal.

Columbus Blue Jackets 2019 at World Juniors:

Tyler Madden: Center - 5'11, 150 lbs. Playing this season with Northwestern University. 14 GP , 6-9-15pts

Tyler is a having a strong year with Northwestern, he is an underweight 5'11 who will need some time at the Univeristy to build up his muscle and work on his defensive game. Through 3 games for team USA at the 2019 WJHC he has 1 goal and 1 assist.

Toni Utunen: Defense - 5'11, 169 lbs. Playing his 2nd season with Tappara Tampere of the SM Liiga. 21 GP , 0-1-1pts.

Toni is a very undersized puck-moving defenceman who has a regular spot on Tappara. He is having a slow year but was still able to show off enough skill and in zone coverage to make the 2019 u20 Finnish squad. Through 3 games at the 2019 WJHC he currenty sits at 0 pts and has a +1 rating.

Mattius Samuelsson: Defense - 6'4, 220lbs. Playing for Western Michigan University this year. 16GP , 3-5-8pts.

Mattius is having a strong season with the Mustangs, The overpowering 6 foot 4 220lb defenseman is a big shutdown guy with some offensive upside that will do him well representing team USA along with his fellow Columbus pick Tyler Madden. Through 3 games at the 2019 WJHC he currently has no points through 3 games but has a +/- rating of +2.

Jackets management would like to send luck out to the 3 of our prospects tonight as the 3 of them face off with one another at 10:30pm ET. This game will wrap up the preliminary round of the 2019 WJHC and will determine 2nd and 3rd in their group.
