Columbus's top offensive weapons were in a bit of funk not that long ago. Both Kucherov and Lindholm had a 4 game stretch where they had a grand total of 0 points between them. This may not seem like a significant amount of time, but this team depend on those 2 to generate offence on a consistent basis. 2 games into this scoreless stretch Yanni Gourde was put on the top line and he was given a shot to play with them. That line still didn't produce offence but that was likely due to them trying to find chemistry. The Blue Jackets have now been rewarded by their patience and letting them gel together.

Over the past 5 games Kucherov, Lindholm and Gourde are all on 5 game point streaks. Over those 5 games Gourde has recorded 4 goals (including 1 hat-trick) and 3 assists, Lindholm has recorded 3 goals and 7 assists and last but certainley not least Kucherov has put up 7 goals (including 2 hat-tricks) and 7 assists. With 3 hatricks between these guys in just a 5 game span it is pretty obvious that they do gel well. While it is fairly obvious that they will cool down at some point (likely in the next game since I'm making an article about how good they have been), Columbus is very happy to have finally found a top line combo that is a consistent threat every night. Up next on the Blue Jackets agenda is working on their league worst powerplay and trying to figure out why Varlamov has struggled so much to start the year. Rumor has it that the Blue Jackets are still confident in their starting goalie but with their backup goalie performing well Varalmov's number of starts may start to decrease if he continues to struggle.
