The Jackets made a splash today trading for former Blue Jacket TJ Oshie. The overall deal was TJ Oshie for Akil Thomas, CBJ 2nd 2020, 2M and Steen, with Steen being in the deal essentially to even out the salaries. The Jackets have been searching for a forward upgrade for the majority of the season and took their time evaluating their options before making this move. With the Jackets being consistentley a top 5ish team in the league for the most part this year the Jackets felt comfortable giving up a couple of good futures for a pending ufa.

"This was a deal that we were thinking about for a while" said GM MacPherson. "Oshie brings so much more to the game than just his scoring. His all-around game felt like it would fit nicley with our squad as we play a more two-way type of game. We'd like to Steen for his contributions not only this season but for all his past seasons with the Blue Jackets as well. It wasn't an easy decision to send him off but this was a move to give us some more firepower to help out Kucherov while also giving us a guy who can play defence just as well as Steen can".

With this trade when healthy the Jackets project to look something like this

Gourde - Lindholm - Kucherov

Shaw - Teravainen - Oshie

Rakell - Girgensons - Armia

Caggiula - Dowd - Hawryluk

Niskanen - Petry

Larsson - Murphy

Severson - Gryba

This is oending the Jackets don't make any other moves. While it is highly unlikely they do as they feel comfortable with this lineup they will continue to look to see if they can make any other moves to improve their squad.
