Last year was a big year for Kucherov. Putting up a career high in points, winning the Art Ross and Hart trophies, he had a spectacular year (well up until the playoffs that is). With the Jackets losing some major pieces this past offseason the pressure on Kucherov to lead the team only grew. Well early on it seems that he is more than capable of doing so. Through the first 10 games of the season Kucherov has put up 14 goals and 8 assists for 22 total points. The next leading scorer on the Blue Jackets? Nick Ritchie with 12 points in 10 games. While Ritchie is a solid player, he's not a ppg talent. It has become evident that his results are from playing with Kuchergod.

Now with that being said, Kucherov will eventually come back down to earth. Right now his shooting percentage is at an insane 38.9% which obviosuly isn't sustainable. Once he comes back down the earth the Jackets may struggle as this was supposed to be a retooling year for the franchise. Instead of being meh like they thought they'd be, they are off to a 7-2-1 start. While the prospectpool is thin, they do got some gems. The most prominent of these prospects is Juuso Valimaki, who was out with injury all of last year, but this year looks really good as he has 19 points in 19 Liiga games. To sum it all up the Jackets were a team looking at possibly a lotto pick, and it is still more than likely they will miss the playoffs with a lack of depth, but as of right now Kucherov has done everything in his power to propel the Jackets to the playoffs.
