This past offseason was a busy one for the Jackets as the put an emphasis on starting a new era of young Jackets players will still being a semi-competitive team. Last night was the first game of the year for the Jackets and it appears their new offseason additions are already paying off. Eichel, Lee and Paul each contributed 2 points last night in a 5-2 win over the Red Wings. The Jackets looked really good as they outshot the Red Wings 38-20. They fell behind 2-0 in the 2nd period but then the Jackets appeared to finally start clicking and scored 5 unanswered goals with the first goal of the season being scored by big bodied Anders Lee. Eichel also scored in the 2nd period along with Adam Larsson, whom had the eventual game winning goal.

Last nights victory had a price though it seems as Eichel will be out day to day with a concussion, which obviously isn't ideal but the Jackets feel comfortable with their center depth. Strome will be moved from wing to center the 3rd line and franchise savior Paul Stastny will be taking the 1C spot for the time being. The Jackets are hoping their defence and Semyon Varlamov can help compensate for losing their best forward for a few games. Even when Eichel comes back the Jackets will be facing an uphill battle to make the playoffs, but they believe they have a shot as long as their defence and Varlamov holds up.
