Time for another prospect update.  We seem to be doing these roughly bi-monthly.   I'm currently up to ranking 46 prospects.  Which I would say roughly 40-42 still have NHL potential.  There are some interesting risers and fallers in this addition.  Keep an eye on Durzi.  The guy has come out of no where to establish himself as a top 4 D in LA.   Scott Morrow has answered any questions about his game.   Who is Pavel Dorofeyev?  He's only leading the Silver Knights in scoring.   Also look for additions since the last update - Hirovonen, Usov and Zadina.   He hasn't moved at all in these rankings but Logan Mailoux is back playing for London and already has 4 points in 2gp.  He's going to be one to watch.   The Blues prospect cubbard is full but we're still looking at add more.  Especially at the top end.

Until next time....

22-Jan 21-Nov Sept 21/Name/NHL Draft position Comments
1 1 1. Brandt Clark - RHD, 18 (Los Angeles Kings — 8th overall, 2021) Snubbed from Team Canada WJC team but nothing to do with his play or talent.  28 points in 23GP.  2nd in OHL defenceman scoring with 2 less points and 4 less games played than the leader.  An all situations type defender who needs to continue working on his skating stride.
2 2 2. Peyton Krebs, C/LW, 20 (Vegas Golden Knights — 17th overall, 2019) Krebs has first line playmaker written all over him.  He's getting a little show time with a weak and injury riddled Buffalo team right now.  His assist an Tuch's goal was on all the sports channel highlights.  He should have a full time gig next year.
3 3 3. Connor McMichael C/LW, 20 (Washington Capitals — 25th overall, 2019) Has played in the NHL all season.  His icetime has been pretty steady at 10 minutes a night.  Some are questioning if his limited icetime is best for his development.   Either way, he's shown glimpes of top 6 talent. Hopefully next year he will have a bigger role.
4 4 5. Fabian Lysell -LW/RW, 18 (Boston Bruins — 21st overall, 2021) Up a spot in the rankings.  His move the N.America had a bit of a rough start but he's got 15 points in his last 10 games and is really playing well.
5 5 4. Rodion Amirov LW, Ufa-KHL (Toronto Maple Leafs – 15th overall, 2020) He hasn't been playing much in the KHL.  Most likely due to his contract being up and his impending move to the leafs farm team.  Still he hasn't been producing and even though he's shown flashes, they are just that - flashes.
6 8 6. Marat Khusnutdinov - C, SKA-KHL (Minnesota Wild - 37th overall, 2020) Slow and steady wins the race.  He's only 19 and playing for the best team in the KHL. Avging about 12-14 minutes of icetime a night.  He's got 11 points in 30GP.  He's doing ok.  He wore the C for Team Russia at the WJC.
7 11 14. Scott Morrow - RHD, Shattuck St. Mary’s-U.S. – (Carolina Hurricans - 40th overall, 2021) 18 points in 18GP.  He's answering any doubts about his play.
8 N/A N/A Filip Zadina - RW/LW, Detroit Red Wings-NHL (Detroit Red Wings - 6th overall, 2018) Acquired in a trade for Nolan Patrick.  The 6th overall pick has only 10 points in 34GP.  All Zadina's underlying stats show him as someone who can drive a line.  Expected goals for, corsi etc etc.. However with a shooting percentage under 6% he's not scoring and its affecting his overall game.  Likley a player who could use a change of scenery.   With his positive underlying stats, the Blues are hoping Zadina rediscovers himself soon.  He's still only 22 but time is starting to run out for him to get his game together.
9 6 10. Daniil Chayka - LHD, CSKA-KHL (Vegas Golden Knights - 38th overall, 2021) The second WJC snub on this list.  Also a top defensive scorer in the OHL with 22 points in 27gp. At 6'3 he has great size.  He's also a great skater.  He probably needs a year or 2 in the AHL before making the jump to the NHL.  Projects as a top 4 D.
10 10 15. Pavel Dorofeyev- LW, Henderson-AHL (Vegas Golden Knights – 79th overall, 2019) Dorofeyev is a bit of a sleeper on this list.  Not a super high draft pick (3rd round) and not a very well known name.  However as a 21 year old in the AHL, he's been playing really well.  He leads the Sliver knights in scoring and has 10 points in his last 10 games.  11 goals in 26 GP on the year.  He also got his first NHL game in this year.   He likley projects as a middle 6 scoring winger and should challenge for a roster spot next year with the Knights.
11 15 11. Drew Helleson -- LHD, CSKA-KHL (Colorado Avalanche - 47th overall, 2019) Once considered a defensive defensman, Helleson has put up some impressive numbers 2 years straight at Boston College.   He currently has 14 points in 18 GP.  The avalanche D is deep so it'll a few years before he his the NHL.
12 9 12. Danilia Klimovich - RW, Minsk Zubry-Belarus Jr. (Vancouver Canucks – 41st overall, 2021) Klimovich the 18 year old AHLer.  Sure that's right, but I can't say he's having a super successful year there either.  He's doing as well as an 18 year old can be expected to do.  He's recently been a healthy scratch.
13 16 N.R Sean Durzi  - RHD,Ontario Reign-AHL (Toronto Maple Leafs - 52nd overall, 2018) Durzi has come out of no where and is up to 13th on the list. He's avging nearly 18 minutes a game and has solidified himself as a top 4 D for LA since coming up from the AHL.
14 14 13. Erik Portillo, G, 20 (Buffalo Sabres — 67th overall, 2019 Portillo is the Blues top ranked goalie.  He's currently the starter for power house Michagan.  He's putting up decent enough numbers.
15 13 16. Helge Grans - RHD, Malmo-SHL (Los Angeles Kings, 35th overall, 2020) Pretty much as expceted for the smooth skating Grans.  He was on the top pairing for Sweden at the WJC and is having a pretty good season for the Ontario Reign.  We're hoping he follows in the footsteps of fellow top Blues prospect Sean Durzi.
16 7 17. Tristen Robins - RW, Saskatoon-WHL (San Jose Sharks, 56th overall, 2020) Has slowed down quite a bit after a hot hot start. He now has 12 points in his last 10 games.
17 na N/A Roni Hirovonen - C, HIFK-Liiga (Toronto Maple Leafs - 59th overall, 2020) Recently acquired in exchange for Matt Dumba.  He had a slow start to the season but has 9 points in his last 10GP and 6 in his last 5GP playing Finlands top league.  He wore the C for team Finland at the WJC.
18 18 18. Logan Mailloux - RHD, London-OHL (Montreal Canadians, 31st, 2021) 4 points over 2 gp since his return.  A very small sample size.  He'll like move up in the next revision of these rankings.
19 19 19. Timothy Liljegren RHD, Toronto-AHL (Toronto Maple Leafs, 17th, 2017) He's solidified himself as an NHLer - finally.  Now the question remains, is he a top 4 D or a bottom pairing guy.  His play before his recent injury was pointing towards top 4.
20 12 26. Dmitri Rashevsky -RW, Dynamo Moskva, KHL (Winnipeg Jets, 146th overall, 2021) Having a great season in the KHL.  However he has cooled off considerably with only 5 points in his last 10gp.
21 17 7. Alexander Alexeyev - LHD, Hershey-AHL (Washington Capitals - #31st overall, 2018) One of my biggest fallers.  He did get his first NHL game recently.  Not performing well at any level. .
22 24 20. Urho Vaakanainen - LHD, Boston-NHL (Boston Bruins, 18th overall, 2017) He's got 2 NHL games in this year.  He's an NHL'er but at this point we're starting to wonder if he's only a bottom pairing kind of guy.
23 27 21. Donovan Sebrango - LHD, Grand Rapids-AHL (Detroit Redwings, 63rd overall, 2020) Solid D with great skating.   Had a spot on Team Canada WJC.   Having
24 22 9. Dominik Bokk- RW, Chicago-AHL (St.Louis Blues – 25th overall, 2018) Another big faller.  I'm starting to wonder if he will ever put it together.  Not having a great year whatsoever.
25 32 27. Pontus Holmberg, C, Vaxjo-SHL (Toronto Maple Leafs, 156th overall, 2018) Moving up a bit.  Holmberg is having a great season in the SHL and should come to N. America next year.
26 25 22. Robert Mastrosimone -LW, Boston Uni(Detroit Red Wings, 54th overall, 2019)
27 Na Na  Ilya Usov - C, Dynimo Minsk- KHL (Undrafted).  One of my prospects I almost forgot about.  He's undrafted but he's only 20, has good size and has put up 26 points in 40 gp in the KHL.  Including 7 in the last 10.  These are good numbers.    He may continue to move up this list.
28 26 NR. Nick Malik Recently added to the list.  Although not drafted, he's still only 19 and leads the Liiga in SV% with a .920.
29 31 25. Lukas Parik – G, Ontario Reign – AHL (Los Angeles Kings, 87th overall,2019) Led the ECHL in SV% before being promoted to the Ontario Reign.
30 23 28. Anttoni Honka, RHD, JYP-Liiga (Carolina Hurricanes, overall, 2019)
31 21 HM Jan Bednar,G,- Acadia Bathhurst, QMJHL (Detroit Redwings, 107th overall,2020) Having a decent season.  The wings 4th round pick represented Czech at this years WJC.
32 28 31. Isaiah Saville G, Nebraska-Omaha-NCHC (Vegas Golden Knights,135th Overall, 2019)
33 29 23. Cole Huckins,- C, Acadie-Bathurst-QMJHL (Calgary Flames, 77th overall, 2021)
34 30 24. Daniil Chechelev – G, Stockton Heat – AHL (Calgary Flames 96th overall, 2020) Recently promoted from the ECHL to the AHL.  Yet to play a game.
35 34 HM Filip Kral, D, Toronto Marlies, AHL (Toronto Maple Leafs, 149th overall, 2019) On fire lately.  He's in Toronto's plans.
36 39 33. Filip Johansson RHD, Frolunda-SHL: 2018 Won't live up to his draft position but is playing decent hockey lately and will likely play in the NHL someday.
37 36 34. Ethan Cardwell - C/RW, Barrie Colts ( San Jose Sharks, 121st overall, 2021)
38 37 NR. Liam Kirk - LW/C, Tucson Roadrunners (Arizona Coyotes, 189th overall, 2018) 22 and injured.  Still the best real Brit to ever play the game.
39 38 32. Layton Ahac LHD, Ohio State University-Big Ten 2019 Injured all year.
40 43 HM Mac Hollowell,D – 22 – 2018 Draft
41 33 35. Vadim Zherenko, G, Ilves,Liiga(St.Louis Blues, 208th Overall,2020) 20 year old starter in the Liiga for Ilves.   Putting up ok numbers but not great.  .894 SV% in 20GP.
42 40 HM Dominic Basse , G , NCAA Colorado College (Chicago Blackhawks, 167th overall, 2019 ) Playing well enough but well enough to hit he AHL next year?
43 35 HM Matej Pekar, LW, Rochester-AHL(Buffalo Sabres, 94th overall, 2018) 4th line NHL material.
44 44 HM Kody Clark, RW, Hershey Bears – AHL (Washington Capitals, 47th overall, 2018) Wendel's son…
45 42 29. Nikola Pasic - RW, Linkoping-SHL: (New Jersey Devils, 189th Overall 2020) A late round pick who's playing like a late round pick.
46 41 30. Jaromir Pytlik C, Litomerice-Czech-2 (New Jersey Devils, Overall, 2020) Really disappointing season.  Started in Liiga and now he's  finally back in Czech plyaing for Kladno and not exactly doing well.
