David Ullstrom

Age: 19
Hometown: Jonkoping, Sweden
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 198lbs
Position: C
Current Team: HV71
NHL Draft Status: 2008 NYI 4th Round Pick, #102 Overall

Statistics:

HV71 (SEL): 19GP, 1G, 3A = 4PTS
Borås (Allsvenskan): 15GP, 9G, 7A = 16PTS
Sweden (WJC): 6GP, 2G, 2A = 4PTS

Notes:

Ullström is a big, speedy forward who enjoys the physical aspect of the game. With his hard-hitting, he can change the momentum in a blink of an eye. Nevertheless, when given the opportunity to play on the top 6, Ullstöm is a consistent contributer as evidenced by his numbers in the Allsvenskan and WJC. Having now played a total of 26 games in the SEL, Ullsröm should receive increased minutes and play a more important role for HV71 next year.

GM-Eric: "Although David won't be in the NEFHL for at least 2 more years, we think he will make a big impact in the SEL next season so we want to lock him up before he gains more attention."

Dustin Jeffrey

Age: 21
Hometown: Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 199lbs
Position: C
Current Team: Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
NHL Draft Status: 2007 PIT 6th Round Pick, #171 Overall

Statistics:

Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL): 14GP, 1G, 2A = 3PTS
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (AHL): 60GP, 11G, 25A = 36PTS

Notes:

Having been called up by the Penguins in the mid-season, Jeffrey has made big strides in his playing career and should have a good chance of making the Penguins line-up from training camp, albeit in a 4th line role. A big and gritty defensive forward, Jeffrey's game is better suited for a bottom-six spot, even though his numbers are decent on WB/Scranton's second line.

GM-Eric: "We're very glad with DJ's progress this year considering we drafted him in the late rounds as an overager last year. The fact that he played 14 NHL games this year means his ratings will allow him to step into the Jackets' 4th line come opening night. I'm very excited about the possibility of a Strudwick-Jeffrey-Bitz line!"

Lars Eller

Age: 19
Hometown: Rodovre, Denmark
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 198lbs
Position: C
Current Team: Frolunda
NHL Draft Status: 2007 STL 1st Round Pick, #13 Overall

Statistics:

Frolunda (SEL): 48GP, 12G, 17A = 29PTS
Denmark (WJC): 5GP, 3G, 3A = 6PTS

Notes:

Highly touted as a top European prospect, Eller did not disappoint this year as a rookie in the SEL. As the youngest forward on his team, Lars finished 3rd in scoring and helped Frolunda reach the semi-finals in the SEL playoffs (10GP, 3G, 1A). All signs pointed to Eller coming to North America next season, but a recent playoff injury that will sideline him for nearly 5 months may interfere with those plans.

GM-Eric: "If it wasn't for his recent injury, I think there would have been a real possibility that Lars make the Blues squad from training camp. He is already putting up big numbers in the SEL and in my mind is ready to make the jump immediately. Regardless, I hope that Lars decides to play in the AHL rather than stay in Sweden, that way the transition to the NHL will be smoother later on."

Kristofer Berglund

Age: 20
Hometown: Umeå, Sweden
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 180lbs
Position: D
Current Team: Luleå HF
NHL Draft Status: 2008 STL 5th Round Pick, #125 Overall

Statistics:

Luleå HF (SEL): 52GP, 3G, 22A = 25PTS
Sweden (WJC): 6GP, 0G, 1A = 1PTS

Notes:

Berglund's size was concerning at first, but his phenomenal numbers have put to rest all those questions. Despite being the youngest player on his SEL team and a rookie, Berglund finished 6th in points and lead all defensemen by a considerable margin. He kept up with his pace during the playoffs, recording 3A in 5GP before his team was eliminated in the first round.

GM-Eric: "I'm still not sure where K.Berg will end up playing next year, but as long as be keeps improving I'll be happy. In the past few weeks, I have read a lot of good things about this guy's vision, hockey sense and passing skills. Just the fact that he's on the first powerplay unit of his SEL team goes to show how highly he's regarded by his coaches."
