Detroit News: GM Eric out, mleblond IN

The Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch announced today that Eric Barton has been relieved of his duties as general manager.

Said Ilitch: "I felt that I had no choice but to make this decision in the best interests of the Red Wings and our fans. Eric has been good for this organisation but I felt the pressure of Hockey Town might of been too much for him to handle. We like to set the bar high as our fans are very loyal." Mr. Ilitch has already found a new candidate to replace Mr. Barton. It's the former assistant GM from the Flyers Mathieu Leblond. Known for helping out the league. We suspect that he will be very busy with all activities in upcoming weeks. We had a chance to speak with Mr. Leblond.

Said Leblond: "I am very excited to be part of this organisation. We have a good core of players. My first duties will be to prepare for prospect signing and draft. We will be losing big guns on UFA and will definitely be shopping to replace them. You can look at us to pick up forwards and sign UFA J-S Giguère ASAP."

The Red Wings were eliminated in the second round by the Dallas Stars in the playoffs and we wanted to know what GM Leblond had to say: "Congratulations to the champions. What else can I say." He also added with a chuckle; "I guess we put up a good fight considering how the finals went down".
