Wings Squeeze into playoffs....

After 82 games of the regular season it had to come down to the final game to decide the faith of 3 teams. Luckely the Wings were facing the worst team in the west back to back to squeeze into the 8th playoff spot just 1 point over the Stars.

Exceeding expectation...

After the big fiasco last post season when we saw guys like Nylander and Glen Murray leave the team as a UFA among others, the wings where left out with some big shoes to fill. Thanks to guys like Mike ribeiro, Marco Sturm and what to say about Radek Dvorak. Radek was a hidden gem for us this year. We were not expecting to make the playoffs on my first year as General Manager but Giggy decided otherwise.

Recap of trades for this season...

There was lots of talk but not much action. Our organisation does not believe in lot's of trades. We trade to make our team better. That said here is what GM Leblond concocted this year:

2007-08-10 - Detroit Red Wings trade Chris Kunitz to Calgary Flames for Jordan Lavallee, Mark Streit, Stefan Meyer and Tim Brent.

This trade was at the start of the season. Flames needed a good 1-2 line winger and Wings showed interest in streit from day one. One year later, the definite winner would be us but if the Flames can win a cup then I am sure they would do that trade over again!

2008-01-13 - Detroit Red Wings trade Bryan McCabe to Boston Bruins for Jocelyn Thibault and Josh Hennessy

This trade was supposed to help put Boston in the playoffs. Boston was struggling and needed help on the point. T-Bo is was only a rental backup as he is UFA and Josh was mixed in to give ourself more youth.

Next year in perspective....

GM Leblond is indeed impatient for next season to start. He has a very big group of kids making the step to the big league. Guys like Mueller, Okposo and Lucic. Our team should have very good rerates for guys like Streit, Keith, Yandle and Ribeiro. We also have 2 first round picks this year and hoping to pick up some good guys.

Now that it's all said and done. We have the Flames to worry about!

Thanks for reading.
