New Jersey and Florida Game Summarys: Game 1

As the playoffs opened with the Eastern conference teams looked and studied hard on their opponents. However it was soon shown that either the Devils did no homework or the Panthers are on scholarships to Harvard. The game was anything but close except in shots with a difference of 3 in favour of Florida.
The Devils could simply not get their shots through with the acception of Koroyuk's goal which was due to a weird bounce off the boards. For the Panthers things were the complete opposite. They stuided and rewrote the boook on Boucher and Caron by scoring 6 goals in 27 shots.

Nash had an amazing goal scoring run in a single shift that notched him his first hat trick in his first playoff apperance. The only question that surronded the Panthers were if their young guns could handle the playoff pressure.

Although not the toughest opponet they proved all their critics wrong with in just over a minute into the game. Heatley, also making his first ever playoff apperance, made himself felt with 2 goals. However the unsung hero of this game was Marchant who had 3 helpers and was out against the Devils top line all night. It was not only the offense that had the game for Florida but the defensive squad did a hell of a job by killing all of their 7 penatlys taken but lets not forget the real hero in this game, Loungo. He stopped 23 out of 24 shots. During the game the Devils looked beat and defeated.

Most likley due to the 9 game losing streak before the post season. Not only did they loss confidence but they lost left winger Pascal Dupuis to a broken nose which was given by Brad Richards. In all fairness to Richards, Dupuis deserved what he got. Dupuis delibratly ran into Loungo during a routine play that had no need for even attepting a steal. Richards did what any good teammate would do and got in a pushing match that ended up in a fight. Richards one by a land slide.

The Devils were already defeated but had to add even more embarresment. As coach Gretzky, who was yelling and screaming at his players throughout the game, pulled Boucher he only destroyed the confidence of Caron who let in a goal in his first shot against. Sadly for Caron it would be the only shot he would be faced with. As the Panthers came off the ice at the end of the game with a load of confidence the Devils took a load of shame. What was once a happy organization in Jersey has turned into what the Devils players call Hell.
