Predators Bid Farewell to Fan Favorite Doug Weight

The Nashville Predators bid farewell today to Doug Weight, the greatest Predator of the young NEFHL. He was packaged with a pick and a prospect for Pavol Demitra. Asked for comment on the deal, GM Mathieu stated "As much as I love Dougie, this deal had to be made. With him, Shanahan, Blake and Stumpel all headed for Unrestricted Free Agency, we knew we wouldn't be able to sign him before the other teams had their chance. This deal bolsters our first line now and for the next 2 years as Demitra is on a long term contract. You never know, we may still attempt to sign Dougie as a UFA in the offseason depending on how our team looks."

Doug Weight led the Predators after being acquired in December of 2005 from the Rangers. Having an average season with them, Weight came in and caught fire, proprelling himself to the Art Ross Trophy and the Hart Trophy by season's end. He currently is the NEFHL all-time leader in Points and Assists, though this season, he is not producing at quite the same pace as he did last season.
