Rangers looking to make big splash in free agency

With big contracts such as Segei Federov, Owen Nolan, Bill Guerin and Robert Lang coming off the books the New York Rangers will have plenty of money to spend this offseason. The Rangers roster will undergo a complete overhaul this summer as they will need to fill holes at all positions. The main focus will be on adding a number one centre to play along side star winger and NEHL MVP Alexander Ovechkin. The Rangers are also looking to add a top pairing defenseman and depth on both sides of the puck.
Here is where the Rangers roster stands as of today:
Line 1 Ovechkin - UFA - UFA
Line 2 Veilleux (RFA) - Pahlsson - UFA
Line 3 Stastny (RFA) - Moore - Tootoo (RFA)
Line 4 Mackenzie - Draper - Regin

General manager Steve Tetreault has already stated publicly that he has no intention of using his loyalty signing and it appears he is opting to dip into the fountain of youth and rejuvenate an aging Rangers squad.

New york is looking to build off a somewhat disappointing 8th place finish and second round exit last season. They only had 3 picks in this years draft, two of which were first rounders which they used to select Vancouver Giants centre Evander Kane and Omaha Lancers centre Louis Leblanc. The Rangers appear to be in good shape going forward as they also have 3 first round picks in next years draft.

New York is engaged in ongoing contract negotiations with restricted free agents goaltender Carey Price and defenseman Marc Edouard Vlasic. With this years free agent class loaded with talent it is going to be a very busy and very productive summer in the big apple. The youth movement is on in New York and the future is promising for the blue shirts.

The Rangers were knocked out of the second round last year at the hands of the Thrashers.
