The Pittsburgh Penguins organization accomplished their season goal this year of winning the Atlantic Division. The Penguins barely edged out the New York Islanders. The teams tied the season with 96 points a piece. The Penguins won thanks to the leagues second tie breaker, goal differential. With this years performance the Penguins not only won their first division title, but set a franchise record for points in a season.
"As a team we are all thrilled with our performance this year. We reached a lot of the team goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the year and we are really pumped about that." said defenseman Dan Hamhuis.

The Penguins finished 1st in the league in shots for, averaging 29.6 shots a game. The team was third in the league in goals for (3.49), fifth in power-play percentage (18.1%), and sixth in the league in penalty kill (88%). Evgeni Malkin scored a personal and team best in points (104) and goals (56).

"I play good. Team play great. We celebrate and I drink vodka." Malkin said with a smile.

The Penguins are set to face the Washington Capitals and are anxious to get things started. The Penguins won the season series 2-1-1. The series is expected to be very exciting and could go down to the wire. The Pens defense and goaltending are going to have to play consistent hockey, especially with names like Zetterberg, Sakic, and Michalek on the ice.

"They have a nice blend of vets and youngsters on their team. Biron is an experienced playoff goaltender and we are going to need to really crash that net and make the best of our opportunities. We expect MGD to be good in net for us. In order for that to happen our defense core is going to have to be at their best in our own zone. If we can play good, Penguins hockey, we should be okay." said head coach Ken Hitch*****.

With a good night of partying under their belts, the Penguins are ready for business. Could it be their year?
