Sharks Announce Therrien as head coach

A few days after officially bringing being named the head coach of the San Jose Sharks Michel Therrien met with the media for the first time.

A happy, strong mannered Therrien was delighted to be welcomed as the head coach and was happy with Sharks management for giving him the chance to take over and NEFHL team.

"This is a great day, I knew right after the season ended teams would make changes and I knew that I would get a call to be a head coach. Once San Jose called I could not have been any happier, this is a great market, great management and most importantly this looks like a great team to work with. This from Therriens press conference. Therrien takes over for Mike Kitchen who was let go 2 two weeks ago, Kitchen was offered an assistans role but declined the offer in hopes of being a head coach in the league once again.

Therrien admitted he has yet to speak with each of the teams players but said he has spoken with team captian Mike Richards and they have reportedly set up a team meeting a week before the Entry Draft in San Jose.

Word of the deal Therrien signed with the Sharks seems to be a 5 year deal worth around 300K a season.

Therrien said right away he will be in all organizational meetings to discuss the teams own free agents and other free agents that will hit the market and he said he expects once his meetings finish up with his players he will hop on a plane to Ottawa to be at the draft.
