It's only 5 games in but there appears to already be a clear favorite for who will be the Blue Jackets MVP by seasons end. Semyon Varlamov was signed for another 2 seasons by the Blue Jackets this summer at a 4.8M cap hit and so far he's been worth every penny. Varlamov has helped the Jackets start the season with a 5-0-0 record with his 1.37 GAA and his .950 save percentage. Players like Eichel, Lee, Strome and Poolman have all been great to start the year as well with all them averaging at least a point per game, but man Varlamov has been out of this world.

Will Varalamov keep this pace up? Nope, it's just to insane of a statline to keep up over the course of an 82 game schedule. But, with such a hot start helps the Jackets with their goal of making the playoffs even in the middle of a retool. There is a lot of young talent on the roster with Eichel, Strome, Jones, and Forsling all being key cogs in the machine for the Jackets. Even if they come close to the playoffs and come up short it would still be very encouraging to see the next generation of Jackets players step up to the plate. But if it is any indication early on, the Jackets will only go as far as Varlamov can take them.
