The World Juniors have come and gone and Minnesota's six prospects is the lowest turnout in the past three seasons. It's still a nice amount however, so GM Peter isn't disappointed. "It's how it goes. We're not at that part of the cycle anymore. Nashville's group is where I was last year. We could see Detroit or another rebuilding team there in a few winters. We want the nine we sent from two years ago and the thirteen from last year to start cracking our pro roster along with the rest of the guys that weren't invited to the tournament in years past. We're starting to see that already and will see more in the coming years. We're still happy to send six this year. And we're looking to send hopefully at least five more next season. A young core will be brewing with Pettersson, Kase, Morrissey, DeBrusk, Tkachuk on the pro team and there are spots to fill to surround them."
A look at how the 6 performed:
Aleksi Heponiemi: 7 games 3 goals 6 assists 9 points 4 PIM +7
Ryan Poehling: 7 games 5 goals 3 assists 8 points 2 PIM +5
Emil Bemstrom: 5 games 4 goals 2 assists 6 points 20 PIM +3
Ivan Morozov: 7 games 1 goal 1 assist 2 points 0 PIM -1
Evan Barratt: 7 games 1 goal 0 assist 1 point 4 PIM -2
Daniel Bukac: 5 games 0 goals 1 assist 1 point 2 PIM +1
Next up is the trade deadline. Obviously in a basement dwelling type season there will be changes to the team. "We suck right now but we're trying to be buyers. We got a lot of prospects and want the pro team to improve. We got more than enough picks and prospects to make a move. It's just trying to find a team to work with on a player that makes sense for both teams. We'll see."
