A bold statement was made earlier this afternoon when the Buffalo Sabres GM claimed that Jason Robertson was the best young player in the league.
Alex Newhook, the pride of Newfoundland, couldn't help but feel otherwise.
"Has Fuhr even seen my stats? I am a FHL hero right now," said the young centremen.
If it weren't for the play of Newy, the Penguins would certainly be in the basement of the NEFHL.
"I'm not very good at math, but after punching it into my phone, I am pretty sure I have close to three times the amount of points that JR has," added the youngster.
Newhook's 15 points through the first 17 games has him tied with Vegas Knights stud, Tim Stutzle. Close behind those two is fellow Penguin, Lucas Raymond, who has amassed 14 points in as many games as Newhook.
"Our young guys have been instrumental for us this season, especially while dealing with some tough injuries. It is nice to know that we have young talent that can help carry the load now and hopefully in the future. We are hopeful that this trend continues," stated head coach Craig Berube.
The Penguins currently have four players on the shelf. Evgeni Malkin is still a long ways away from return after a successful surgery to repair his ruptured spleen. The biggest issue is the hole on the right side of the ice. Miles Wood and Seth Jarvis will be watching from the press box for at least another couple of weeks, with recent call up Kasper Bjorkvist out day-to-day.
Goaltender Eric Comrie will be starting his third game in a row tonight. Starter Jordan Binnington is still recovering from fatigue after dropping to 96 two games ago. Hurry the fuck up already.
