It's official, the Blues will pick 2nd overall in the up and coming 2023 draft. Although slightly disappointed to miss out on Conner Bedard, the Blues are more then excited to pick up Adam Fantilli. When reached for comment Blues GM Thompson had the following to say "Adam is the kind of corner stone player you build a franchise around. This guy would be picked first in almost any of the drafts of the last 10 years with very few, if any exceptions. Would we have loved to get Conner Bedard? Of course. That said, in the end, we're not sure who's going to have the better career when it's all said and done. Very few people have accomplished what Adam has accomplished this year in the NCAA - I mean he's set scoring records and won the Hobey Baker award. This guy's star burns bright and this franchise will be lucky to have him". Fantilli along with young prospect Shane Wright drafted first overall last year should give the Blues a solid 1-2 punch down the middle for years to come. Throw in stud defenceman Brandt Clarke and the foundation for success has been laid. Even with the talented young trio and complimentary upcoming pieces such as Luke Evangelista, Connor McMichael, Peyton Krebs and Fabian Lysell, the Blues stll have a long climb out of the basement. In other news, big decisions loom on which prospects the Blues will sign from the 2021 and 2019 Drafts. With 14 prospects due to be signed and only around 10 roster spots, not everyone will be signed. Players who've already played in the NHL such as Helleson, Dorofeyev and Clarke are shoe ins. Promising youngsters such as Lavoie, Mailoux, Portillo and Saville are probably ok as well. The others? Time will tell.
